Location Summary
Deployed in 2016, this system has been used as a tool for researchers interested in quantifying vessel traffic in a busy, urban area of San Francisco Bay. The presence of marine mammals in the area, including large whale species, is of concern due to potential interactions with vessels. M2 facilitates analysis of both commercial and recreational vessels of all sizes. This site is also used for active research and development for ongoing M2 system improvements.
