Location Summary
At this site M2 would be used to monitor vessel activity within a whale sanctuary zone/vessel exclusion zone. The use of radar and a camera would be especially valuable for tracking and identifying smaller recreational vessels that are not required to transmit their location via the Automatic Identification System (AIS). M2 would provide a means for assessing compliance of these vessels near the exclusion zone. M2 data would also help researchers characterize underwater noise from both recreational and commercial vessels in the area and evaluate its potential impact on local species.
