Location Summary
The M2 system installed at the Moonlight Beach lifeguard station in Encinitas monitors vessel traffic in the vicinity of Swami's State Marine Conservation Area where recreational fishing and commercial passenger fishing vessels (CPFVs) are common. Data collected at this site were used in the successful prosecution of illegal fishing within reserve boundaries by the CPFV Electra in December 2020. M2 provides a method for continuing to monitor the presence and compliance of CPFV Electra and other commercial and recreational fishing vessels in the vicinity of the MPA.
