M2 Deployed Here!
Location Summary
The coral reefs and mangrove forests of the Derawan Islands, along the eastern shores of Borneo, support more than 400 species, including thousands of sea turtles that make their nests on the beaches each year - more than any other area is southeast Asia. The Derawan Islands Conservation Area supports local communities by managing fishing and tourism across different MPA zones that limit certain types of fishing. The M2 system in the Derawan Islands empowers local managers with data and tools to enforce the regulations, protecting biodiversity and supporting the local economy.
