M2 Deployed Here!

Location Summary

Protected areas around the island of Tutuila can be remote and thus difficult to monitor and deter poaching activities. The Fagamalo and Fagatele no-take zones are priority no-take areas, where all fishing activities are prohibited, and have repeatedly requested assistance from the Department of Marine and Wildlife Resources (DMWR) for monitoring of suspected poaching. The Mobile Marine Monitor is rotated around the island to track fishing activity in different sites at different times of year. M2 also assisted monitoring efforts during pandemic-related travel restrictions.
