Right Whale Exhibit Using M2 Data

Located at the Tybee Island Marine Science Center

North Atlantic right whales are critically endangered, with vessel strikes as one of the primary causes. To raise awareness, the Tybee Island Marine Science Center, located near Savannah, Georgia, recently opened a new exhibit on right whales that features live, interactive vessel tracking data thanks to M2. Data are collected using the Automatic Identification System (AIS) paired with a camera. The pairing of images and vessel speeds in the exhibit tells a powerful story about the threats whales face in their environment and how vessel speeds compare with current regulations.

Check out local TV news coverage of the exhibit, including the M2 vessel tracking component, here.
