New Impact Report from Derawan Archipelago

Following its deployment in December 2025, Marine Monitor (M2) is already delivering a measurable enforcement impact in Indonesia’s Derawan Archipelago.

In January, radar and long-range camera data from M2 guided patrol teams to intercept illegal compressor fishing inside a no-take zone.

Compressor fishing is a high-risk practice that uses surface-supplied air hoses, allowing divers to stay down longer and fish deeper reefs. It is dangerous for fishers, often linked to decompression injuries, and can intensify pressure on vulnerable reef ecosystems and protected species.

This interception demonstrates what technology-enabled protection can achieve: real-time intelligence supporting faster, more targeted enforcement in sensitive marine areas.
